The Authority has many diverse aviation security functions which range from conducting regulatory monitoring and surveillance of the aviation industry and its implementation of the ICAO Annex 17 – Security Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and the SARPs of the other Annexes with security provisions through audits, inspections, tests, and surveys.
The Authority certifies Aviation Security Service Organisations (ASSO), Regulated Agents (RA), Ground Handling Service Providers (GHSP), Aviation Security Instructors, and Security and Cargo Screeners. Furthermore, the Authority provides approvals for catering service providers, air cargo operators, and quality control officers. From time to time the Authority conducts route inspections, security surveys, and transfer hold baggage and transfer air cargo validation inspections at Fiji Airways last ports of call (LPOC).
As the designated Appropriate Authority (AA) for Aviation Security in Fiji, the Authority also provides technical advice to the government, while complying with Fiji’s obligations to ICAO.
