Medical Standards, Tests and Certification
No licence or rating referred to in Air Navigation Regulation 53 being a licence or rating which is granted or renewed subject to physical and mental fitness shall be issued or renewed unless the applicant undergoes medical examination with an approved medical authority and satisfies the medical standards notified by CAAF:
Provided that, if, in the opinion of the approved medical authority, the failure of the applicant to meet a prescribed medical standard is not such as to introduce any hazard either of sudden incapacity or of inability to perform his duties safely during the validity of his licence or rating and is capable of being compensated and the Authority has satisfactory evidence that the applicant has already acquired and demonstrated his ability, skill and experience which compensate for failure, the licence or rating may be renewed or endorsed with any special limitations when the safe performance of flight duties is dependent on compliance with such limitations.
The Authority may require the holder of a licence or rating issued or rendered valid under these Regulations to undergo a medical examination by the approved medical authority at any time if, in its opinion, such examination is necessary for the interest of safety of aircraft operations.
An Approved Medical Authority means any person or persons (being in the opinion of CAAF, suitably qualified) approved by CAAF for the purposes of Medical Standards, Tests and Certification.
All personnel licensed under Air Navigation Regulation 53 shall comply with medical standards notified by the Authority.
